My Top 10 TXP plugins · Tuesday December 27, 2005 by Gerhard Lazu
These are the TXP plugins that I find myself using most often (+ some of my own that aren’t public – yet):
- rss_admin_db_manager (gives you full control over your Textpattern database)
- rss_admin_show_adv_opts (automatically expands the advanced article options when you’re on the content > write tab)
- rss_live_search (brings live search functionality to Textpattern with a very simple installation process)
- zem_contact (produces a flexible, customizable email contact form)
- ako_nav (dynamically creates a navbar)
- ob1_googlenav (creates a navigation bar as seen on Google when you search for something)
- aba_import_images (imports lots of images into Textpattern without the hassle of going through the interface for each image)
- glx_admin_image_resize (it adds more options to Textpattern’s image edit page: resize image, create thumbnail and rotate image)
- ign_password_protect (use to password protect part or all of a Textpattern website against users in the
txp_usertable – site_admin tab) - ran_tags (use tags for sorting articles instead of categories)
(yes, the podium is swept by Rob Sable! No. 1 TXP Power User!)
Most useful plug-in? rss_admin_db_manager most definitely!
What about you? Which plugin/s do you use most often?
hmm so many on your list i have not tried yet. i have just recently converted my photoblog to textpattern, finally (see url). there’s not a single plugin used yet. any suggestions? i would love to try ran_tags but maybe as soon as it does clean urls. maybe ;-)

I went through the code for ran_tags and there are some snippets that suggest an attempt for clean URLs. I don’t think it will be long before Ran sorts that bit out.
Well, tags would be great and other than that maybe rss_live_search. You would have to hack it though so that it would look into caption and/or alt fields.
Other than that, I think that your TXP setup is just right for your needs.
Remember, the less plugins you use, the quicker the website.

I would argue, besides your custom_field plugin, that asy_wtag is quite useful.
You need to supply something here and there, so instead of php junk in your page or compiling a plugin , this is a snapper.

Marios, you are right mate, asy_wtag is a rather handy little thing. I haven’t updated this article in a while, I think it’s about time to make a new one. Mind you, most of the plugins on this list are still among my favourites, there are 2 or 3 little changes, but that’s about it.
